The Photography of Bruce Colero

December 16, 2011

Interview by Cary

Cary: What inspired you to pick up a camera?
Bruce Colero: I originally hired a photographer to shoot a fitness calendar for my supplement company. It was frustrating to have to get “my vision” across to someone else who had his own interpretation.
So I said fuck it and took it upon myself to learn the craft.

Cary: What particular challenges do you face with erotic photography as opposed to other genres?
Bruce Colero: Erotica will always bring with it the narrow minded and the prudes. Both of which I have little time for. Erotica has ALWAYS been my only interest, as my art teacher once said “paint what you love”.
Other mainstream topics has always been more widely accepted but I find it boring as fuck.

Cary: Do you prefer to shoot with film or digital?
Bruce Colero: Digital, mainly because it avoids the development phase.

Cary: How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM?
Bruce Colero: I’m always interested in images that push buttons and get people’s attention. I’m also interested in the psychological aspect in the more deviant sexual practices. What is it about that particular kink that gets the person off? And even though it may not be MY particular brand of fetish (or maybe it is) I love finding out from people why it interests them.

Cary: Do you think pinup and fetish are becoming part of the mainstream culture?
Bruce Colero: I don’t think anything overtly sexual will EVER become mainstream, but I do see our culture becoming more acceptable of it (or perhaps numb). The question is, if it ever DOES become mainstream will it lose its mystique? The taboo has always been popular due to the fact that its NOT mainstream. Who wants to be part of the status quo anyway? Normal is boring.

Cary: What kind of music do you like?
Bruce Colero: My love of music is equal to my passion for art. I can play the piano, drums, guitar (both acoustic and classical) as well as take vocal lessons. I can appreciate all forms of music, love rock, country, celtic, pop, classical – anything really. Just not Jazz.

Cary: What do you like to do for fun?
Bruce Colero: Lets end this on a sarcastic note with me saying I love talking long walks on the beach holding hands. Lol, or not. 😉
